Meanwhile, Tom Cruise’s post-apocalyptic thriller Oblivion made $17 million in its second week in theatres, according to movie-tracking website BoxOfficeMojo.com.
Baseball movie 42 – it follows Jackie Robinson as he becomes the first black player in the Major Leagues – took in $10 million.
Overseas, fans flocked to see the latest from Robert Downey Jr. and co. Iron Man 3 made $195.3 million in its opening weekend – that’s ahead of The Avengers, last year’s highest-grossing movie. That film made $185 million in its opening weekend.
Iron Man 3 opens in Canada on Friday.
